Mapua Tekno Teatro

Mapua Institute of Technology(MIT), an institute that pioneered and produced the best Filipino Engineers, who would have thought that this institute would also deliver outstanding Thespians as well.

I can still remember the day I auditioned to be a member of Mapua Tekno Teatro (MT2), the official theater group of MIT. I can still recall the excitement and how nervous I was that it even made me throw up minutes before setting foot on the stage and faced the panels with an awkward smile. Things were very clear as if things just happened yesterday.

With a stroke of luck and maybe some skills (let's just say I was great then, for the sake of the discussion, I manage to  get in along with 30 or more applicants. MT2 was ramping up, preparing for their upcoming major production, in which by that time no one knew yet what its going to be. The late Professor Alfredo Macaraeg was the  adviser of the organization at that time. He was very supportive. In his eyes we were his children and he was very proud of our achievements as individuals. He is still an inspiration to me and he is the one who helped us believed in ourselves and on the things that we can do and offer when we perform.

MT2 Rehearsals
After series of meetings with the Center for Arts Foundations Incorporated(CAFI), A Man Called Jesus, a musical play written by the founder of CAFI himself, Mr. Jerome Vinarao, was the piece chosen for the major production. We have chosen the piece not just because it is a play about Christ but also because of its intriguing plot, its actually a play within a play. I'll write about it next time so you can have a better picture of what I'm talking about. We performed the said piece in Music Museum. It was the first for all of us, performing in the stage where various celebrities and thespians alike performed one of their best productions in the past.

Warming Up!
Today, MT2 has produced individuals that excels in both Engineering and Theater. Marco ViaƱa, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering in Mapua and one of the Board of Directors of MT2, is now the resident coach of the said organization with the help of Eliza Marie Baento, a licensed Civil Engineer and also one of the Board of Directors of MT2, I can say the organization is in good hands.

August of 2010, MT2 celebrated its 10th year anniversary and organized a spectacular show for Mapua Students, Family and Friends. With continued love and support MT2 will continue to grow and produce beautiful productions that will surely open our eyes to the beautiful and frightening realities of life.

It's great to know that the group I helped through my foundation is still growing and helping students aspire to be in the wonderful world of theater. It is an honor to have been a part of the beginnings of Mapua Tekno Teatro.
